Johannesburg, Day 1

Flight time from NYC to Johannesburg is fourteen hours fifteen minutes.  We arrived safely, picked up our bags, exchanged some currency, and picked up the smartphone I had rented.  I then spent some time setting up a new Apple account to download apps onto the rented iPhone as, when trying to use my existing account, I kept getting asked to enter the confirmation ID texted to my US phone number.

Uber will be a lifesaver, and will likely be the only method of transport we use in the city.

Heaven60

There was never any question that I would post a song from Anything Box.  The only thing I wondered was which song I could possibly choose as representative of them.  A song that could possibly have the emotional weight I would want to share, along with a video that encompassed the artistry and conveyed the personality.  Anything Box has an extensive catalogue (both under the Anything Box moniker and under other names, with a couple side projects worth noting).  Their sound has evolved over time as well.  Many people mistakenly consider them an 80’s band.  Technically, they were around in the 1980’s.  But their initial entry onto the national music stage occurred in 1990, with the release of their album “Peace” on Sony Records.

Old School Rap Song of the Week! (Part 4)

“It’s been 4 weeks and you haven’t done a Run DMC song?!”

That’s right. And now you’re going to have to wait longer for mentioning it. Next time you’ll be more patient.

Anyway, from the same era comes a man who is considered one of the top 10 emcees of all time. This somehow still current star used to ghost write songs for Run DMC at age 15 in the 1980s! Are you kidding me?! He went on to have a very successful music, TV, and movie (somewhat) career.

Jose’s 300

This is my go-to full-body strength training routine.  My friend Jose developed this routine and shared it with me.  Within about twenty minutes, you do 300 reps of various exercises.  The routine consists of mostly body-weight exercises (meaning no special equipment is needed).  With a routine like this in your back pocket, you have no excuse to not exercise.

Feminism- Is it in You?

This is actually a movie review, sorry about the misleading title.  I saw Passengers, that movie starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence where they look cute together on a space ship.  If you haven’t heard of it, I’m sure you will be able to find it On Demand within a week or two.

The plot is that Chris Pratt is on a spaceship where everyone is frozen until they arrive at some far-off destination in 120 years, but you see, Pratt’s hibernation pod breaks down after only thirty years and he and JLaw swim in zero-g water and the robot waiter is funny because he looks like a human but doesn’t act like a human and Pratt can only afford to eat the low class breakfast every morning while Lawrence is rich and can eat eggs and bacon at the replomat and Chris Pratt is a man’s man who makes things with his hands and Jennifer Lawrence is a writer who is actually named Aurora and a video call to Earth takes forty years and costs $6,000.

And, not to ruin the movie for you, but things on the ship don’t go quite as planned.  As a matter of fact, things on the ship start to go very wrong.  So it’s up to the cute couple to save the day, and maybe the human race while they’re at it.
